Recall/Recalibrate

Recall/Recalibrate is a new essay series that investigates the so-called ‘Ethical Policy’, which was implemented by the Dutch colonial regime at the turn of the 20th century. What is the link between this ‘ethical direction’ and the brutal expansion of empire that took place at the same time? How did this ethical branch of colonialism materialize in crafts education?

At www.recalibrate.nl you will find essays, images and resources that aim to ‘recall’ and ‘recalibrate’ this historical period that still leaves an impact on how we think in the present. Recall/Recalibrate is an initiative of Dutch design educator Rosa te Velde. Histori Bersama is co-publisher. This project originated in collaboration with the Wereldmuseum and was funded by Creative Industries Fund NL.
