On 19 October 2017 the (draft) open letter by Jeffry Pondaag and Francisca Pattipilohy was presented as part of a discussion evening organized by Histori Bersama. The debate was held at Leiden University. In their letter Pondaag and Pattipilohy criticized the outline of the Dutch government-sponsored research on 1945-1949, of which the results will be presented at February 17, 2022. Histori Bersama published the letter in 3 languages and sent it to the Dutch government on November 27, 2017.
The conversation during this first public debat was quite chaotic at times. Apart from English, Dutch and Indonesian language was used. Moderator: Jazie Veldhuyzen. Contributions by: Dr. Ethan Mark, Marjolein van Pagee, Jeffry Pondaag, Francisca Pattipilohy, Yvonne Rieger-Rompas and Aboeprijadi Santoso. Also present at this evening were: Indonesian ambassador Gusti Agung Wesaka, Dutch government official Hanjo de Kuiper, NRC-journalist Frank Vermeulen (who never wrote a single word about the protest) and prof. Bambang Purwanto (head of the Indonesian research program).
